The Summit is a great opportunity for networking with an impressive mix of pharmacies, manufacturers, health plans, wholesalers, hospital systems, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), patient advocacy groups, and others. This year’s agenda looks strong, with a good mix of keynotes and a solid business program. You can get a flavor for the event in my review of last year’s Summit in Armada 2013: Specialty Pharmacy Gets More Competitive.

P.S. My wife Paula, who runs Drug Channels Institute’s e-learning business, will be attending this year’s Armada Summit. While this is good news for anyone interested in our e-learning modules, it also means that I won't be coming come home with any more photos like this one.
OFFICIAL DESCRIPTION FROM ARMADA
Join Industry Peers at the 10th Annual Armada Specialty Pharmacy Summit & Expo in 2014
Specialty drugs have become a leading driver of healthcare costs in the United States. According to numerous industry estimates, 50% of prescription revenues will come from specialty drugs within the next 4 years. The number of specialty pharmacies continues to grow, and these businesses are well positioned to offer the support services necessary to manage expensive and complex therapies—even as market share for dispensing specialty medications still remains highly concentrated.
Employers face increasing pressure to control rising expenditures and help their members achieve positive health outcomes at the same time. Although specialty pharmacies have historically been the go-to source for specialty drugs, many drugstores and supermarket chains are now actively pursuing the specialty opportunity. New mergers & acquisitions in the specialty space are occurring each day, and keeping abreast of the latest developments in specialty drug revenue and access will become increasingly crucial for all of the stakeholders in the pharmaceutical supply chain.
The Armada Specialty Pharmacy Summit & Expo on May 5-9, 2014, at The Wynn in Las Vegas is a unique forum for stakeholders to come together and discuss access challenges facing the healthcare industry. Attendees can learn how to effectively contract and partner within this segment, manage the specialty spend, and navigate the healthcare landscape for the specialty patient.
At the meeting, pharmaceutical manufacturers, specialty pharmacies, independent pharmacy owners, chain pharmacies, wholesalers, distributors, health plans, PBMs, employee benefit managers, consultants, patient advocacy groups and business coalition representatives can gain first-hand insight into the proper management of the specialty spend from policy makers, operational leaders, and executives from the specialty pharmacy industry.
The meeting will feature:
- Thousands of attendees from the specialty pharmacy industry
- Four days of targeted programming
- Presentations from nationally recognized speakers, including:
- Keynote speaker Michael J. Fox
- Jim Robinson, President, Astellas Pharma US
- Myrtle Potter, former COO and President, Commercial Operations, Genentech
- Alan Lotvin, MD, EVP, Specialty Pharmacy, CVS Caremark
- Networking and business development opportunities
- Collaborative breakout sessions from leading industry stakeholders
- Access to the Summit’s official mobile app to customize your meeting experience. Download it from iTunes (for iPhone/iPad) or Google Play (for Android).
- And more!

ReplyDeleteI'm the owner of a couple of independent retail pharmacies trying to get into specialty. Should we participate in this summit and expo? Not sure how it gonna benefit us, from how to break into the market, marketing it, and get into the network for both the Manufacturer and PBM sides? Thanks so much.
